People who desired a day that was comparable to National Take Your Daughter to Work Day made the first attempt to establish National Sons Day in the 1990s. National Take Your Sons to Work Day was eventually established in 1998 by a group named National Sons Day, but in 2003 the two days were combined into one.
Jill Nico, who wanted a day to recognize sons and the parents who raised them, similar to National Daughters Day, brought the concept of a day to honor sons back to the forefront in 2018. As a result, many people now choose to observe National Sons Day on March 4 a018.
